Episode 1: David Jay – Part 1

July 31, 2008

Well it’s finally here. The inaugural episode of “F-Stop Beyond: In Living Color.” We spent an entire afternoon at David Jay’s “Freedom House” in the Santa Barbara hills, and there is A LOT of video. So much, that we’re going to actually have seven separate videos from this shoot. Here’s the low down:

  • Three of the videos will be of the primary sit down interview.
  • A special extended interview with DJ more business oriented available exclusively to Freedom Club members (sign up here).
  • DJ took us on a tour of his entire home, so we have a special “Cribs” episode. We also surprised DJ with two surprise guests. All three of these videos will be exclusively available to subscribers of Cinematic Studios’ CSI:ProPhoto newsletter. Sign up here.

Now, on with the show…

This is the first in a three part interview. In this part, DJ shares with us what it was like growing up, the pressure and responsibility of being a “role model,” the power of giving, and more. Enjoy!

I want to send a special shout out to my associate producers on this episode, Andrew Hsu of Studio MSV out of San Ramon, CA. And David Ethridge of A Video Reflection in San Jose. Thanks guys. I hope we can do it again.

Hey Ron, great video. I’m from Chicago and I’m a big fan of your video work, but I also appreciate how supportive you are to the community. I met with Josh from Cinematic Bride about a month ago and he spoke very highly of you, saying that you were ‘a great friend’. Of course your work is impressive, but I’m inspired by how folks like you, DJ, Kenny Kim, Josh, J*, Mike Colon, DQ and others keep your faith in God at the center of your lives. Keep up the great work! BTW, DJ and Kenny, I can’t wait to see you guys when you come to CHI! Romans 1:11! God bless … – Ray

So fantastic to hear DJ talk about giving and how that all works. It’s something that even in the early stages of my own full time photography business I have seen work. Being able to give even before God blesses me, and knowing that it will come back and then seeing my photography business continue to flourish and build.

Love hearing the background of DJ’s life and looking forward to the other episodes. I’ll be subscribing on Itunes and watching on my new 3G Iphone over here in Australia 🙂
